Description

Synodontis Multipunctatus Cuckoo Catfish of Lake Tanganyika are great for African Cichlid aquariums. Synodontis Multipunctatus Cuckoo Catfish are easily kept in freshwater 73F -83F making them a hardy aquarium acquisition. When a pair of mouthbrooding cichlids are breeding in the aquarium, the Synodontis Multipunctatus  will smell the scent and it triggers the catfish into spawning mood if the female is ripe with eggs to spawn. During spawning a pair of catfish will sneak in the middle of a pair of breeding cichlids and eat half of the cichlid eggs. The catfish will then deposit and fertilize the catfish eggs. The cichlids pick up and mouth brood the catfish eggs and half of the cichlid eggs. Catfish eggs hatch much sooner than the cichlid eggs. The catfish first healthy meal is the second half of cichlid eggs. The female cichlid releases catfish fry rather than cichlid fry.
